Dennis L. Martire as a Trusted Voice for Labor Representation

Representing workers effectively requires experience, credibility, and a commitment to protecting their interests. Throughout his career, Dennis L. Martire has embodied these qualities as a senior leader within the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA). For more than three decades, he has worked to ensure that laborers across the Mid-Atlantic have a strong voice in negotiations, workplace policies, and regional workforce initiatives.

Martire began his journey with LIUNA in 1990 as a member of Local Union #1058 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His early role as an international representative focused on resolving jurisdictional disputes, giving him valuable experience working directly with union members, contractors, and industry leaders. These responsibilities strengthened his understanding of the challenges workers face and reinforced the importance of fair representation in organized labor.

His leadership expanded in 2002 when he was elected Vice President and Mid-Atlantic Regional Manager. Since then, Martire has represented thousands of union members across multiple states, overseeing organizing efforts, labor relations, and collective bargaining initiatives. His leadership has consistently focused on securing fair treatment, strengthening workplace protections, and ensuring that workers have access to stable employment opportunities supported by strong union representation.

One notable example of his advocacy occurred during the Route 495 Hot Lanes project in Virginia. Martire supported laborers as they organized and established a new local union, enabling workers to gain stronger representation and long-term bargaining power. The successful effort highlighted the value of collective action in improving workplace conditions and protecting employees’ interests on major infrastructure projects.

Beyond direct labor advocacy, Dennis L. Martire serves on numerous workforce investment boards, transportation authorities, and labor-management organizations. These leadership roles allow him to represent labor perspectives during discussions that influence economic development, infrastructure planning, and workforce policy across the region.
